Letting Go to Let In: A New Year’s Message on Trust and Freedom

A Message from the Owner – January 2025

Happy New Year!

The first yoga class I taught in our new space focused on the art of letting go, a theme that feels perfect for the start of a new year. So often, we hold on to things that no longer serve us, old habits, fears, or attachments, without realizing the space and time they occupy.

Letting go can feel challenging, but even small steps can create the peace and clarity needed to embrace new opportunities. Letting go is ultimately an act of trust in yourself and in God/ Source that guides you. Here's a beautiful Sufi story that illustrates this:

The Man and the Donkey

Once, a weary traveler sought wisdom from a Sufi master. He shared his struggles, attachments, and inability to find peace. The master invited him for a walk, and they came across a man pulling a donkey up a steep hill. The donkey resisted, and both were stuck.

The master asked, "What do you see?"

The traveler replied, "A man trying to move his donkey."

The master smiled. "Look closer. Who is tied to whom?"

The traveler noticed the rope binding the man and the donkey and replied, "Neither can move freely."

The master said, "Exactly. The donkey resists because it feels bound. The man struggles because he won't let go. In life, we cling to desires and fears, thinking we control them.

But in truth, they control us."

The traveler asked, "What should he do?"

The master replied, "He must let go of the rope. Only then can both find their own paths."

This story reminds us that letting go is not about giving up-it's about freeing ourselves and others to move forward with ease.

Just as we detox our bodies before nourishing them with healthy foods, we must detox our minds from the need to cling so tightly to old ideas that no longer serve us.

In this spirit, as the studio opens, I am embracing letting go by offering donation-based yoga classes. Instead of focusing on fees, I'm trusting that those ready to practice will come, and the energy of giving and receiving will flow naturally. Here's to a year of letting go of old ways and embracing a new and amazing life!

Big Bear Hugs, Linda Osorio

PS: Here is your affirmation for the month:

"I let go with grace and make space for new blessings to flow."
